Today, on the occasion of the World Day for Cultural Diversity, Dialogue and Development, we would like to share with you the story of Yousra, whose commitment and resourcefulness has shown how multiculturalism cannot be anything other than a humanly and professionally extremely enriching opportunity for the present and future of all people involved.
Yousra, a 23-year-old woman with a degree in industrial engineering, lives in Tangier. While attending an automotive fair in her city, she came into contact with MeC Costing, a Turin-based company that had recently opened a branch in Morocco. The company’s representative was impressed by her profile after she left her CV with him. A few months later, he informed her of the possibility of a paid internship in Italy, made possible through a circular migration path developed as part of the Work Is Progress program.
Yousra eagerly accepted the opportunity and, after attending the Work Is Progress Program in a space managed at the Maisons des Jeunes in Tangier, she participated in three months of pre-departure training. This included an A1-level Italian language course and workshops focused on strengthening soft skills and understanding the Italian cultural and work environment. Our staff assisted her with the administrative, legal, and practical aspects of migration to Italy, and soon after, she left for Turin to begin a six-month internship.
In Italy, Yousra had the chance to deepen her skills in Cost Analysis, a field that remains underdeveloped in Morocco. This experience was not only professional but also cultural, allowing her to explore Italy and build meaningful connections.
In September 2024, Yousra returned to Tangier with a transformed role: from a university student to a key 9 f igure at MeC’s local branch, which now relies on her for the development of its business in Morocco. For Yousra, her encounter with Soleterre was life-changing: “Getting to know Work Is Progress changed my life,” she says. This journey has not only opened the door to an innovative industry for her country but has also enriched her personally, offering an international perspective and new opportunities for growth.
