EL SALVADOR
For 17 years, Soleterre has been working in El Salvador to promote the social inclusion and protection of vulnerable people. With two operational offices in San Salvador and the Department of Chalatenango, in the last two years its activities have expanded to the western departments of Ahuachapán, Santa Ana and Sonsonate, expanding its impact on the territory.
Through a multidisciplinary and integrated approach, Soleterre offers: psychological assistance for the emotional well-being of communities, school support and digital literacy for minors and young people, and art workshops and community meetings for non-violent conflict management and restorative justice
Since 2021, a central pillar of cooperation has been the Work Is Progress programme, known locally as EMPLEANDO-NOS. The initiative was created to respond to the growing need for employment opportunities by providing vocational training and technical and financial support to young and vulnerable people, including: returned migrants and people at risk of migration, rural workers with a focus on the coffee supply chain and young people seeking opportunities in the sustainable tourism sector.
Chalatenango remains the heart of coffee production, while in protected areas such as the Apaneca-Llamatepec Biosphere Reserve and Montecristo National Park, the programme is promoting sustainable tourism and environmental protection. The aim is to valorise natural resources and create new opportunities for economic development while respecting the environment.
Through partnerships with local and national actors, EMPLEANDO-NOS is transforming the Salvadoran labour market, demonstrating that social inclusion, economic growth and environmental sustainability can go hand in hand.
